Contraer Preterite (Past) Tense in Castilian Spanish

The preterite of contraer is used to express when someone contracted something or entered into an agreement at a specific moment in the past. For example, when you want to say “They contracted a debt last year” – “Contrajeron una deuda el año pasado.”

This is an irregular verb in the preterite tense. Like other compounds of traer, it uses the stem ‘contraj-‘ throughout all forms.

The Preterite of contraer indicates specific instances of contracting or acquiring.
