Conseguir Subjunctive Mood in Castilian Spanish

The Subjunctive Mood of Conseguir is used to express desires, doubts, or uncertainties about achieving or obtaining something, for example: Espero que consigas el trabajo. (I hope you get the job.)

Conseguir is an e to i stem-changing verb, meaning the e in the verb stem changes to i in certain conjugations of the present subjunctive mood.

Usage of Conseguir in the Subjunctive Mood

Conseguir generally means “to get” or “to obtain”, but has several different meanings in the Subjunctive Mood, some of which might surprise you.

To achieve or accomplish: for example, Espero que consigamos terminar el proyecto a tiempo. (I hope we manage to finish the project on time.)

To find or locate: for example, Ojalá que consigamos encontrar un buen apartamento cerca del trabajo. (Hopefully we can find a good apartment near work.)

To persuade or convince: for example, No creo que consigamos que nos den un descuento. (I don’t think we’ll manage to get them to give us a discount.)

To get someone to do something: for example, Aunque insistas, no conseguirás que te preste dinero. (No matter how much you insist, you won’t get me to lend you money.)

To obtain a job or position: for example, Espero que consiga ese trabajo en la empresa multinacional. (I hope she gets that job at the multinational company.)

To get a hold of something (colloquial): for example, ¿Crees que consigamos entradas para el concierto? (Do you think we can get tickets for the concert?)
