The presente de subjuntivo of aprobar is used to express desires, doubts, or uncertainties about approving or passing something, for example: Es importante que aprueben la propuesta. (It’s important that they approve the proposal.)

This is a stem-changing verb, meaning the “o” changes to “ue” in some conjugations. The stem change occurs in all forms except nosotros and vosotros.

Dudo que el comité apruebe el aumento de las tarifas este año. (I doubt the committee will approve the rate increase this year.)

A menos que aprobemos el proyecto hoy, no podremos comenzar a trabajar en él. (Unless we approve the project today, we won’t be able to start working on it.)

Siempre y cuando aprueben mi solicitud de préstamo, podré iniciar mi propio negocio. (As long as they approve my loan application, I’ll be able to start my own business.)
