The Future Tense of detener is used to express actions that will take place in the future. For example, Detendré el coche en la gasolinera. (I will stop the car at the gas station.)

Detener is an e to d stem-changing verb. In the Future Tense, the e in the stem changes to d in all forms except nosotros and vosotros.

El árbitro detendrá el juego si los jugadores siguen peleando. (The referee will stop the game if the players keep fighting.)

Cuando llegue el jefe, detendrá la reunión para darnos instrucciones. (When the boss arrives, he will stop the meeting to give us instructions.)

Si no encuentras trabajo pronto, detendrás tus planes de mudarte, ¿no? (If you don’t find a job soon, you will stop your plans to move out, right?)

El gobierno detendrá la construcción del oleoducto debido a las protestas. (The government will stop the construction of the pipeline due to protests.)
