Usage of Llorar in the Future Tense

Llorar generally means “to cry” or “to weep”, but has several different meanings in the Future Tense, some of which might surprise you.

Literal meaning: To shed tears, usually due to sadness or pain. For example, Lloraré cuando vea esa película triste. (I will cry when I see that sad movie.)

To beg or plead: To cry or shed tears while begging or pleading for something. For example, El niño llorará para que le compren ese juguete. (The child will cry to get them to buy that toy for him.)

To shed liquid (figurative): To release or emit liquid, often used for plants or objects. For example, Las plantas llorarán si no las riegas. (The plants will “cry” if you don’t water them.)

To regret deeply (colloquial): To feel intense remorse or regret over something. For example, Llorarás cuando veas lo que hiciste. (You will deeply regret it when you see what you did.)
