Preocupar Subjunctive Mood in Castilian Spanish

The Subjunctive Mood of Preocupar is used to express wishes, desires, or uncertainty about something worrying or concerning you. For example, Es importante que no te preocupes demasiado. (It’s important that you don’t worry too much.)

Usage of Preocupar in the Subjunctive Mood

Preocupar generally means “to worry” or “to concern”, but has several different meanings in the Subjunctive Mood, some of which might surprise you.

To worry or concern: For example, Me preocupa que no llegues a tiempo (I’m worried that you won’t arrive on time).

To care about: For example, No me preocupe que te vayas (I don’t care if you leave).

To bother or disturb: For example, No me preocupa que hagan ruido (It doesn’t bother me that they make noise).

To be anxious or uneasy (colloquial): For example, Me preocupa que me la líen (I’m anxious they’ll mess things up for me).

To care or give a damn (rude): For example, ¡A mí que me preocupe! (I don’t give a damn!)
