Repetir Present Tense in Castilian Spanish

The Present Tense of Repetir is used to describe actions that you repeat or say again, for example: Repito la lección. (I repeat the lesson.)

This verb follows the e to i stem-changing pattern in the present tense, where the e in the stem changes to i in all forms except nosotros and vosotros.

Usage of Repetir in the Present Tense

Repetir generally means to repeat or say something again, but has several different meanings in the Present Tense, some of which might surprise you.

Literal meaning: To repeat or say again, for example, Yo repito las palabras del profesor (I repeat the teacher’s words).

To retake or redo: To do something again, for example, Repito el examen la semana que viene (I retake the exam next week).

To order food again: To ask for the same food or drink again, for example, Repito una cerveza, por favor (I’ll have another beer, please).

To vomit (slang): In colloquial usage, it can mean to vomit, for example, Creo que voy a repetir (I think I’m going to throw up).

To nag or pester (rude): In a rude sense, it can mean to nag or pester someone repeatedly, for example, ¡Dejas de repetir de una vez! (Stop nagging me already!)
