This is an e to i stem-changing verb in the preterite tense. The stem change only occurs in the third person singular (él/ella/usted) and third person plural (ellos/ellas/ustedes) forms.

Usage of Repetir in the Preterite (Past) Tense
The Preterite of repetir indicates when something was repeated or done again.
To repeat: Used for when something was done again, for example Repetí el ejercicio tres veces (I repeated the exercise three times), or Repitieron el examen (They took the test again).
