Usar Future Tense in Castilian Spanish

The Future Tense of Usar is used to express actions that will take place in the future, for example, Usaré mi nueva computadora para trabajar. (I will use my new computer to work.)

Usage of Usar in the Future Tense

Usar generally means “to use”, but has several different meanings in the Future Tense, some of which might surprise you.

Literal meaning: To employ something for a purpose, for example, Usaré la computadora para escribir mi ensayo. (I will use the computer to write my essay.)

Wear/Put on: To wear or put on clothing or accessories, for example, Usaré mi chaqueta nueva para la fiesta. (I will wear my new jacket to the party.)

Consume: To consume or ingest something, for example, Usaré mucha sal en la comida. (I will use a lot of salt in the food.)

Utilize: To make use of something, for example, Usaremos el transporte público para ir al centro. (We will use public transportation to go downtown.)

Spend (time): To spend or utilize time, for example, Usaré todo el día para terminar este proyecto. (I will spend all day to finish this project.)

Slang: Take advantage: To take advantage of someone or something in a negative way, for example, Te usaré para conseguir lo que quiero. (I will use you to get what I want.)
